Surrealist Non Linear Narratives:

We believe experimental is too broad of an umbrella for works like Le Troiseme Corps; Hélène Cixous, A Breath of Life; Clarice Lispector  and soon to be released Failed Attempts at Growing Skin; by our founder Zai, all share components that can be classified as Surrealist Narratives that so happen to be non linear. Neptune’s Nectar Publishing isn’t creating anything new, but just looking to find a name for something that has already existed in hopes that we can strengthen this genre and highlight it here at Neptunes Nectar Publishing.

Why Surrealism and why right now? When we look at the inception of Surrealism we see it followed the end of World War I, largely coming about as a form of an alleviation for the tragedy that they just lived. In a world where reason and logic seemed to be a cause of more suffering than joy, Surrealism gave artists and writers an ability to free themselves creatively through exploration of the subconscious mind. Though the current cultural atmosphere is not that of WWI, one cannot help but feel an immense heaviness due to genocide, political frictions, and all out tensions even on a day to day societal level. There is an undeniable friction in the air that feels heavy and overwhelming when we look at how the world seems to be fighting so gruesomely in such sharp opposition. In a time of complete distrust in government and misinformation gone nuclear, we believe Surrealism can actually offer a comfort like it once did at a time where logic and reason led to tragedy.

At a time where people do not know what they can or should believe, let us imagine a different world, maybe one that does not exist but only in our minds. A healthy form of escapism to cope through these troubling times. The lack of logic and reason present in our current society feels frustrating to articulate, possibly, the solution is to introduce absurdity, subversion, dreamlike illusions, what is unseen and unknown. If we already feel like we don’t know what’s real anymore, why not creatively explore the subconscious dreamlike realities to express, comfort or seek new perspectives?

Surrealist Non Linear Narratives is here to do that, to dig back into Surrealism with a fresh new exciting format of non linear narratives. People seem very focused on being the main character, they seem to have a desire to speak, to share their stories, but they do not maybe due to the lack of interest in them. We take the attention span issue and remedy that by the non linear format creating fragmented exciting to follow writing, then we take the natural desire for this main character syndrome and we play with through narrative, and lastly, we dance with Surrealism and here we have found ourselves something fresh and exciting to do with literature.
